In many anime-related games there is some kind of running gag about Bamboo Shoots vs Mushrooms, including Neptunia. What is this all about?

It's a reference to two Japanese snacks, people usually prefer one over the other, think Coke vs Pepi, although in this case they're made by the same company and are more distinct than comparing two colas Kinoko no Yama (Mushroom mountain) and Takenoko no Sato (Bamboo shoot village)

Are those chocolates? If so I think I might have seen them at the asian section at Wegmans.
