So there's a huge gap in the PS3 library when it comes to VNs/dating sims over here so I thought I'd bring this up, especially after all the Otome threads. Date-A-Live has some great Tsunako designs and some great characters, the anime was also certainly amusing. The VN expands on that with routes which let you pursue certain girls and that's something you don't get to see in the anime.

The only VNs we really have access to are on PC and 90% of them are fan translations. I guess the chances of a VN based on an lightnovel/anime coming over are slim but there really are 0 VN's available on the PS3 here and who knows? They could turn out to be very popular.

Mostly brought this up as I would love to see this brought over but I'm interested if there's any support for this or not.

I'd be all for this, given that I've played it in Japanese and it's great and I would certainly buy it again in English, but I absolutely don't see it happening. Too much licensing work involved.

Relevantly, it looks like Rinne Utopia is getting a sequel! And I really like what I've seen so far.

I seem to recall hearing that IFI might be willing to localize smaller products that other publishers might not be willing to do - and these sound like some fairly good candidates for that, especially if you can keep costs down and/or secure some alternate form of funding. Does Idea Factory as a whole have any interest in making these games available though any platform? (A console release might be a bit much, but I could see a Steam release or something on computers as a possibility - that should be easier for VN's than other types of games, anyway)

I'm super excited for the next DAL game. Rinne Utopia was great. I'll be pre-ordering as soon as it goes up.

Well if IF did say they can work on small titles, I hope DaL counts as a small title.

It depends on how high the translation costs are - because that's one of the only real expenses for a game like this, and RPGs usually have a lot of text anyway. I still want it, though. Especially this newly announced one.

Seeing how Monpiece got censored, maybe it's better if Date-A-Live remains unlocalized since those games might get censored, too.

Your going to talk about censorship so what if they removed a few images they kept the rubbing mechanic in that should be good enough

As for Date a Live I've said it once before on other forums but I would love to see this game or it's sequel come over even if it's just digital download.

Date a Live would have huge licensing costs. That said, we seriously don't get enough VNs here. It'd be nice to not have to play a VN on a PC for once.

I can't think of anything from the first DAL game that would really need to be cut. Unless Kotori is just deemed to be pushing it. There's some covered nudity of a few characters, but that's about it. That and some CG jiggle physics.

A friend bought this game and we played it together. It's straight up VN but i mean if you like VN's its great. Great art, pretty good music. It feels like HDN, if we cut out all the actual RPG and field parts, haha. I think Tohka is best, can't beat Marina Inoue.

This game looks interesting, can't IF please consider to localize this. We don't have enough VN in the west and it's my favorite genre. Just take a gamble like NISA did with danganronpa or Aksys with Hakuoki, who knows you might get a little success with this game.

First off, I'm new here, good day to you all.

Anyway, Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is getting an updated re-release/port on PS Vita. New features include new scenarios involving the Yamai Twins and Miku from Volumes  5-7 of the LNs (S2 of the Anime adaptation) added to the base game and it seems Shido might be voiced this time around, rather than just speaking through plain text.

Trailer:

Any chances of this getting a western release in some form? I know there's licensing involved with the author of the LNs and all that, but I think it'd be a good opportunity to bring more VNs to the west. The series also has some exposure in the west thanks to Funimation's Simulcasts and Home Release of the anime. If consoles are no good, how about PC ports then? I hear Neptunia Re;Birth 1 and 2 were rated for PC by the ESRB, though they're more like RPGs with VN-style cutscenes, but there has been a notable push to bring VNs to the west recently. Heck, Steins;Gate is coming to PS3, Vita, and even iOS in the west (on top of the original PC version that was also released recently), and Sekai Project's pushing to bring Clannad westward as well via Kickstarter, so there are some developers that are trying to test the waters with VNs in the west.  I know fan passion isn't usually enough for these sort of things, but I can dream, right?

I'm not sure how it would go if it was released (especially Age Rating wise, seeing as how the game got CERO D), however, it is a decently enjoyable series from what I know and I am interested in how this would go.

You could say that this is a vote. [tongue]

I just realized V is a Cero C rating lol. Anyway lots of Gust's Ar games are D rating and they got localized at a much lower rating without censorship so its possible in that regard.

The visual novel part is the issue for the western market.

Bump.

So the Vita version will be called DATE A LIVE - Twin Edition: Rio Reincarnation, and it will include both Rinne Utopia and Arusu Install, along with a bonus episode that takes place after the events of the second game. This would seriously be the best version to localize since it includes everything and more. I really want this game to come out westward, if possible. I'll even take a digital-only release if that's all we can get. If localized, I'd still urge a PC port for Steam, since VNs probably sell more on that market; and SFW VNs have been starting to gain ground on Steam. I just really, really want this game collection to come westward somehow.

Basically, yeah. It's just a Visual Novel / Dating Sim of sorts, but the stories are original for the games, and actually canon to the plot of the anime and light novel series. They're set in-between events of the series, and are written by the author of the series. The stories involve the main character having to figure out mysteries after running into a strange new girl in each game, and the story gets more intense as it escalates as it goes on. They're kind of parodies and deconstructions of dating sims in a sense, actually.

Gonna need source on the LN author writing them (not just supervising) and that they're canon. As far as I know, neither of those things are true.

Also gonna need source on Rio's story being after the second game, because everything I've seen points to it being exclusively an epilogue to Rinne Utopia and having no relation at all to Arusu Install.

I remember reading somewhere that it was canon, maybe I'm wrong. Also Rinne appeared in Volume 11 of the light novels, IIRC, so to me, that's enough for me to consider at least Rinne Utopia as canon. Rinne Utopia is set between Volumes 4 and 5 (Seasons 1 and 2 of the anime), as well. It kinda works because there's a small time gap between Volumes 4 and 5. I also heard Rio Reincarnation takes place after Arusu Install, but I'm not sure. I apologize for any misconception if I'm wrong.

SPOILERS: Basically what happens is that Shido meets Phantom, and in order to communicate with him, she takes on Rinne's form, which surprises Shido. No, Rinne is not Phantom, Phantom is just a shape shifter. Here's Tsunako's illustration that goes with the scene: http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/images/4/44/DAL_v11_000l.jpg

EDIT: Also, I found the article that says Rio Reincarnation takes place after Arusu Install. The "Rinne Linker Nation" title is a translation error on their part, however. Never trust Google Translate. If you watch the latest trailer, you can tell the narrator clearly says, "Rio Reincarnation".

Source: http://www.siliconera.com/2015/03/12/date-live-vita-includes-new-episode-rinne-linker-nation/
And here's a source that the author designed the date events for Rinne Utopia: http://www.siliconera.com/2013/01/18/stings-date-a-live-game-has-well-dating-sim-elements/

It wasn't about the name (I knew what the name was), but that even if you go look at the official website for the Vita game, it doesn't mention anything about Arusu Install. Everything it mentions is related to Rinne, Ruler, and Eden, particularly on Rio's profile page.

http://www.compileheart.com/date/vita/character/rio.php

It could take place after Arusu Install, further down the timeline from Rinne Utopia, but right now I'm not seeing any indication that it does.

This trailer is proof that it takes place after Arusu Install:

Pause at 0:51, you'll see Rinne and Maria together at school with Tohka, Kurumi, and Origami. I remember reading somewhere that the plot deals with Rinne coming back and Maria entering the real world, along with the return of Eden; all of which, is connected to this new Rio character, whom bears a striking resemblance to Ruler from the first game.

If you're still not convinced after that trailer, then I'll concede.

Anyway, we've been getting a bit off topic. I just really want this to come westward, as unlikely as it may be.

I would gladly buy this game if it was translated and localized, but I am not sure about how well people would take it... I mean if the novel is all age I don't see any problem. I watched the anime and I find it amazing. I also would love visual novel on psvita would help a lot in travels when I am bored. Naturally if there is sexual content better censure it or try a censured version at first, maybe try to put it on steam, lot of visual novels get on steam lately.

With the success the franchise is having in Japan, I wouldn't be surprised to be getting this, besides, IFI is doing VNs now. It seems very natural for an LN pub to get the novels, and that would lead to this. This game IS (from what I hear) a sort of port of the first two games with added stuff, so it would make perfect sense to do this game.

The problem is that no one's licensed the LNs either. And Funi's holding out on the second season, which is necessary for the second game, probably at the request of the licensor in Japan.

But then if this game became a possibility, licensing and rights could become an issue with the various rights holders.

It'd be nice. They're great games. Just keep your expectations low for now.

I agree with you. After doing some searching I found that the demand for the LNs is actually only a little over average, not what I lead myself to believe. And I hadn't thought that the licensor may be holding FUNI back from releasing the second season...

If that's the reason for the delay on Season 2, then it's bad news for me and other DAL fans.

I'll keep hoping, though.

It's pretty standard to hold the BDs back for so long now. Japan's policy of charging like $70-80 for two episodes really started biting them in the ass when blu-ray came out and they shared a region with NA. They had to start enforcing holds on the licensees in order to keep the profits up from regional sales. Otherwise, everyone would import the dual-langauge releases from NA where they'd be half as much for six times as many episodes.
